parotia
spring 2019
The parotia is a bird oftentimes called the ballerina bird due to the way its feathers spread during their mating dance. This collection is structured around the idea of fit and control. It is inspired by the beauty of ballerinas as well as the struggles that the dancers go through.

This dress is a physical depiction of the phrase "a caged bird". A metaphor for how ballerinas are very elegant and beautiful when they perform, but when examining the behind-the-scenes of the dancers we see problems with eating disorders and overworking.
