reimagining 'label'

Campaign

Oftentimes people used labels to make it easier to understand others even if it has a negative impact. The concept of this collection is about how people are tied down by the need for labels but also how labels can help someone and hold them together.

OCR, short for optical character recognition. "The electronic or mechanical conversion of images of typed, handwritten or printed text into machine-encoded text, whether from a scanned document, a photo of a document, a scene-photo or from subtitle text superimposed on an image"

In the LGBT community, there is an inherent sense of hierarchy. Because of the systematic sexism and racism that is in our society. With the relatively recent acceptance of the Queer community, there have been more media with LGBT people.

However, these portrayals of the community are often either one-dimensional side characters who are only there to have representation or character’s who fall into LGBT stereotypes.

There are still stereotypes and misinformation that pollute the well of cultural acceptance, causing the LGBT community to become vulnerable to anti-gay forces working to create a world where they do not exist.

The goal of this campaign is to educate people on underrepresentation in the queer community.

Each look will have a QR code attached to it that when scanned will link to a website that teaches people about the LGBT community.
